Crystal Palace have agreed a £6 million deal for Peterborough United striker Dwight Gayle, according to the Peterborough Telegraph.
Gayle, 22, scored 13 goals in 29 appearances for Posh since joining the London Road club in January this year from League Two Dagenham & Redbridge for £500,000.
The striker was playing Ryman North League football as recently as 13 months ago for Bishop’s Stortford and is believed to be in London on Friday undergoing a medical and finalising personal terms.
Gayle’s last appearance for Posh was at Palace on the final day of the Championship season – despite leading 2-1 with 10 minutes remaining, the away side lost 3-2 and were condemned to relegation to League One.
That result also confirmed Palace’s place in the play-offs, which they went on to win and clinch promotion to the Premier League.
Should the transfer go through, it will become Peterborough’s record-transfer received after the £3.2 million paid by Norwich for defender Ryan Bennett in January 2012.
The striker’s previous club, Dagenham, will receive a sell-on fee for the Gayle between 15-20%.
