Conference Premier club Grimsby Town have signed former Blackpool defender Paul Bignot on a one-year deal.
Bignot, 27, started his career as part of the famed Crewe Alexandra academy before making his senior debut for the Railwaymen in 2004 – a win over Sunderland in a League Cup tie.
The defender had a loan spell at Kidderminster Harriers in 2006 before making the move permanent a year later, making 34 league appearances.
Bignot then moved on to Newport County, where he enjoyed the most successful spell of his career – making 113 league appearances (including a loan spell at the club before signing on a permanent basis in 2009) and was part of the side to win the Conference South with a record points haul of 103 in 2010.
His performances earned an England C cap in 2011 as well as a move to Championship Blackpool after impressing on trial at Bloomfield Road, although he failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Seasiders and was released at the end of the season.
The 6ft 1in defender, who can play anywhere across the back line, will be hoping to revive his career at Blundell Park.
